Job Prep Interns

We are working with 4 wonderful adults in our job preparation internship program. Each individual has distinct interests, bring along unique experiences and explores new skills in pursuit of their God-given purpose and for sustainable employment.

When we first began work with Danielle, Chris, Yvonne and Blanca it became clear that each have a heart to help. Danielle wants to help others through music and art. Chris has a heart for the wellbeing of God’s creation. Yvonne wants to use her experience to contribute and be productive. Blanca wants to return to nursing and achieve higher levels of education.

Over the last four weeks, each intern has identified the roadblocks and circumstances that brought them to CJCGC. Each intern has also rediscovered successes and grown in confidence to achieve their next goals. Just last week we dived deep into what careers each intern wants to pursue and the steps needed to be success.

FHS Interns & GCHS Mentoring

With the new school year, we have been excited to work with FHS & GCHS students!

Our employer relations interns at FHS are collecting information on actual jobs available in Fredericksburg. Collecting from a variety of sources, the work of our interns puts all the information into one central location which helps staff when assisting clients with job searches. At the same time, these high school interns are learning about the wide variety of job opportunities available HERE! We use this opportunity to talk with them about job search strategies, their expectations and explore how their interests match actual opportunities!

We also meet with students at Gillespie County High School. Each week we talk with them about topics important to selecting a career and what to expect in life after graduation – finances, first impressions, communicating well and more. We coach them on finding a jobs now while in school and hope to inspire them to pursue their God-given purpose for the future.

Job Resource Center

It might surprise you that we have a former NSA, cybersecurity professional using the JRC as workspace for several weeks to conduct his job search. He is persistent and consistently applying for local jobs in order to remain in Fredericksburg while engaging with recruiters on jobs that might take him back to Washington, DC or embassies around the world.

This is an example of how the Job Resource Center can help anyone regardless of experience or skill level. In addition to using JRC as shared workspace, clients can use our resources on networking, resume development, interview practice and more!

We have also begun working weekly with a Spanish-speaking client to teacher her how to use the computer. Gisela, a 2019 CJCGC graduate, has graciously agreed to volunteer her time to translate. Another graduate, Deysi is also volunteering time to be available to translate on Fridays and provide office support. With the help of Deysi and Gisela, we are marketing and providing services in order to expand support for native Spanish speakers.
